My foray into the design realm was a bit unconventional. While working as a receptionist at a small advertising agency, fate intervened when the entire design team decided to move on. In the blink of an eye, I found myself transitioning from answering phones to navigating the intricacies of graphic design. Learning on the fly became my mantra, supplemented by a few crash courses in the software that would soon become my design haven.

After working at two small agencies, I transitioned into the dynamic world of the magazine industry at Media 24. Starting as a junior designer, the fast-paced environment propelled me to senior designer within a year and then to Art Director. For 11 years, I contributed to shaping the visual narratives of various publications.

Seven years ago, I decided to take the plunge into freelance life, and it's been an incredible journey of growth. My work now spans a diverse range of projects—book design, digital graphics, PowerPoint presentations, videos, brochures, corporate magazines, consumer magazines, and so much more.

Embracing the wave of technological advancement, I've seamlessly incorporated AI into my design process. It's become an invaluable tool, enhancing efficiency without compromising on the timeless principles of meeting deadlines and delivering exceptional work.

Debbie has freelanced for SA Décor & Design primarily on our 520 page Décor & Design Buyers Guide for the past four years.
